Membership FAQ’s

Why should I join the National Alumni Association since I don’t live in Livingston and can’t take advantage of many of the Livingston-area discounts?
Membership in the National Alumni Association (NAA) offers exclusive invitations to events in your local area, and many national discounts. Since the NAA does not receive state funding for operating costs and programming, dues are necessary to fund all NAA sponsored campus activities, alumni chapter events across the country, student programs, etc.

I am not a graduate of the University of West Alabama, am I an alum? / can I join the National Alumni Association?
Yes. An alum of any institution is anyone who has ever attended.  The UWA National Alumni Association welcomes fans and former residents of Alabama who take pride in the being a Tiger. The NAA does not require members to be graduates of the University.

If you don’t have to be a member to attend activities like football game watching parties, receptions, group outings, etc., then why should I pay to join the Association?
National Alumni Association membership dues make alumni programs in your local area possible. These dues allow the NAA to make each event successful and well-attended by providing invitations, supplies, staff assistance, etc.

Furthermore, your dues allow the NAA to help strengthen and support a growing list of exceptional UWA programs. From student programs such as LEAD, to engaging annual campus events such as Homecoming, the UWA National Alumni Association supports the best interests and traditions of UWA.

How do I become a member of the National Alumni Association?
To join the National Alumni Association, prospective members should visit the Membership site at or they can call the Alumni Office directly at 205.652.3586.

How does my membership assist current UWA students?
The National Alumni Association has a student ambassador program called LEAD (Livingston’s Early Alumni Development). Student members are able to network with alumni and other students, receive career counseling, and attend National Alumni Association events.

Haven’t I already paid my membership? I just wrote a check to the Annual Fund. Isn’t that the same thing?
No, the Annual Fund and the National Alumni Association are separate entities. Making a gift to the Annual Fund does not mean you have joined the National Alumni Association.

I think I am already a member of the National Alumni Association.  How do I find out if my membership is current?
Please call the Alumni Office at 205.652.3586 or e-mail us at alumni@uwa.edu to inquire about membership status.
