During the fall of 2003, the Office of
Institutional Advancement, in conjunction with the National
Alumni Association, established a student organization called
"Livingston's Early Alumni Development" or "LEAD." The
purpose of the LEAD organization is to develop and strengthen
relationships between UWA students and the National Alumni
Association. LEAD members are given opportunities to serve
as ambassadors for the alumni association, and they also assist
alumni chapters in planning and conducting events and
fundraisers. Through this organization, LEAD students are
given the opportunity to network with UWA alumni from all over
the Southeast. Meeting twice each month, the students
commit themselves to making the organization one of the best on
campus. In addition to attending and volunteering to work
at alumni chapter meetings and events, the LEAD organization
hosts a dinner banquet each spring. In 2004, LEAD hosted
Mr. Scott Tew ('89 & '91), North American Director of
Communication for CIBA Chemical as the guest speaker for an
elegant dinner meeting. The event brought more than forty
alums back to campus. Many of these alums had not been
back since graduation. The 2005 LEAD dinner banquet
featured Mr. Bill Sager ('77), Chief Partner of Your Insurance
Partners, Inc. and former mayor of Winfield, Alabama. In
response to the immediate positive impact that the organization
has had for the National Alumni Association, LEAD was awarded
the "Most Outstanding UWA Organization" and the 2004 National
Alumni Association's Annual Meeting and Awards Program during
Homecoming. |
