As a graduate from a small high school and a freshman in the
fall of 1962 at Livingston State College, I had one goal in
mind. That goal? To get the dreaded freshman year
behind me at a small college and transfer to that large one
located about an hour’s drive up U.S. Highway 11. After
that first year, nothing could have pulled away from Livingston.
That was the first time I realized that “There is Something
About This Place!” The years have moved by so swiftly
since that September day when I moved in room 116 Sisk Hall.
UWA certainly has changed in many ways. But there is one
thing that has not changed. The “mystique” is still there
to be experienced whether you remember it as LSC, LU or UWA.
UWA will always be a special place to me, and I am not alone,
for the spirit of the University still affects many who have
fond memories of special times there, of professors, classmates,
and others who helped shape us at a crucial time in our lives.
I hesitate to name them, for I am afraid I would leave someone
out. However, I think you would be able to name some, too.
They will always be a part of us. As you think back on
your experiences there, I invite you to become a viable part of
UWA again by becoming an active member of the National Alumni
Association and a local chapter in your area. If you have
not visited the campus for a while, I encourage you to do so.
Great things are happening at YOUR University and you can be a
part of it! Please consider giving something back to the
University in return for what it has given you.
I am honored and proud to
serve as UWA’s National Alumni President. I look forward
to continuing the work of our past presidents to make the UWA
Alumni Association a thriving organization which promotes the
University’s traditions and goals, and to keep alive the respect
and gratitude for our alma mater.
Go Tigers!
