Dear UWA Alumni & Friends,
The Sumter County Alumni Association needs your
help. To achieve our goal of promoting and encouraging interest
in The University of West Alabama and bringing together the
Alumni of Sumter County, we would like to increase our chapter’s
membership and to become more active. This is a critical time
for higher education in the State of Alabama, and with your
help, we can promote UWA and rekindle friendships.
The Sumter County Alumni Association has
recently awarded several scholarships to Sumter County students.
The McLean/Luke Scholarship has been awarded to Mallory Fox of
York, and The John McConnell Scholarship has been awarded to
Twyla Harris of York and to Kim Smith of Livingston. Glen
Harris, Jr., of Gainesville, and Patrick Hutcherson, of Emelle,
have received scholarships for their freshman years. These
deserving students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better per
semester to renew these scholarships.
Coach Bobby Wallace and our Tigers kick off the
2008 football season on Saturday, August 30, at Tiger Stadium.
We have planned a pre-game social at the President’s Home on the
campus of UWA. The social will be from 5:00 until 6:30. You will
receive a reminder postcard of this event. A tax deductible
contribution of $15.00 per person or $25.00 per family will go
to the Sumter County Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Please mark your calendar for August 30. See you
there.
Lolita Smith, President
Sumter County Alumni Association
