Dear UWA Alumni & Friends,
The Sumter County Alumni Association needs your
help. To achieve our goals of promoting and encouraging interest
in the University of West Alabama and bringing together Sumter County
alumni, we would like to increase our chapter’s
membership and become more active. This is a critical time
for higher education in the State of Alabama, and with your
help, we can promote UWA and rekindle friendships.
The Sumter County Alumni Association recently awarded several scholarships to Sumter County students.
Mallory Fox
received the McLean/Luke Scholarship, and Twyla Harris and James
Hutcheson received the John McConnell Scholarship. Entering
freshmen Tanner Armstrong and Kalynn "Scooter" Pruitt also received
alumni scholarships. These
deserving students must maintain a 3.0 GPA or better per
semester to renew these scholarships.
Coach Bobby Wallace and our Tigers kick off the
2009 home football season Thursday, Sept. 3, at Tiger Stadium.
We have planned a pre-game social from 5-6:30 p.m. at the
UWA President’s Home.
The Sumter County Alumni Chapter will sell brick pavers
($100) for the UWA Walkway of Honor to support our scholarship
fund. Remember or honor a loved one, and help current students
too!
Please mark your calendar for Sept. 3. See you
there!
Lolita Smith, President
Sumter County Alumni Association
